740 MW of power from RGPL by May 1: Shinde

Mumbai, Mar 25 (UNI) Maharashtra, which is reeling under acute power shortage of over 4,000 MW, will receive 740 MW power by May 1 from Unit 2 of the Ratnagiri Gas and Power Limited (RGPL), Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said during his visit to the project today.

Mr Shinde was accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, State Energy Minister Dilip Valse Patil, Union Power Secretary R V Shahi and Chairman of the project Chandan Roy.

An official release said here today that the project's Unit 1 and 3 will start generating upto 2150 MW power by December. The power will be made available to customers at Rs 4.25 per unit.

Pakistanis stage anti-Afghan protest over killings

QUETTA, Pakistan, Mar 25 (Reuters) Up to 200 Pakistanis staged a protest in front of the Afghan consulate in southwestern Pakistan today against the killing of 16 compatriots in Afghanistan. Chanting slogans against Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the protesters pelted the mission in Quetta, capital of the Baluchistan province, bordering Afghanistan, with stones and demanded action against those involved in the killings. Investigators disagree over 2004 air crash cause

CAIRO, Mar 25 (Reuters) The Egyptian head of an investigation into the crash of a Boeing 737 into the Red Sea off Egypt in 2004 delivered today an inconclusive report on the disaster but a French investigator blamed the crew. The Flash Airlines plane crashed shortly after taking off from Sharm el-Sheikh airport in Egypt on January 3, 2004, killing all 148 people on board, most of them French tourists.
