27 killed in UP accidents

Lucknow, Mar 25 (UNI) At least 27 people including seven children died and 24 others were injured in separate incidents in Uttar Padesh in the last 24 hrs.

A report from Kanpur said at least six people were killed on the spot when an overloaded jeep collided with a truck in Suhail area of the adjoining Auraiyya district today.

Police said a person was also injured.

Senior cops had reached the spot.

Three children were burnt to death when a hutment caught fire on Khajuraho road in Mahoba district today. An unidentified person was also run over by a train in Chando village.

Another person, identified as Mushtaq, died when a tractor hit him this morning in Balrampur.

Three people in two separate incidents including a brother-sister drowned this morning under Bagni area of Sonebhadra district.

Meanwhile, two men were run over by a speeding truck in Robertsganj.

Nine labourers were also injured when a tractor trolley overturned.

Four people including two relatives were killed and 13 others injured in two road accidents in Agra last night.

A report from Ferozabad said three people -- Virendra Gupta (45), his daughter Golu and Sanjay Gupta -- travelling in a SUV died when their vehicle collided with a stationary truck near Bacchu Baba Ashram.

In another incident, a 35-year-old man died after he was hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing road in Kamlapur on the Lucknow-Delhi national highway in Sitapur.

According to police, a motorcyclist was killed and a pillion riding youth was grievously wounded when they were hit by a jeep under Vindhyachal area of Mirzapur district.

Meanwhile, a cyclist lost his life when a heavy vehicle hit him under Gokul area of Hardoi district.

Similarly, 12-year-old identified as Pooja died instantly after being hit by a truck at Safdargunj area of Barabanki district.

Investigators disagree over 2004 air crash cause

Pope seeks clemency for Afghan convert - agency

VATICAN CITY, Mar 25 (Reuters) Pope Benedict has written to Afghan President Hamid Karzai urging clemency for an Afghan man facing a possible death sentence for converting from Islam to Christianity, the Italian news agency ANSA said today.
