Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) The elimination of Amey Date, the contestant in popular reality show 'Indian Idol', figured in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly with a BJP member seeking Government intervention in stopping the SMS ''racket'' during voting.
Mr Devendra Phadanvis (BJP) charged that Date has been eliminated just because he happens to be Marathi-speaking.
''There seems to be a feeling that the earlier winner was a Marathi and if another Maharashtrian wins again, the show would lose its following in other parts of the country,'' he claimed.
He said there was a lot of resentment on this development in Mumbai adding the Government should step in to stop the SMS ''racket'' involved in the voting process.
