Woods rubbishes Ryder Cup allegations

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Golf icon Tiger Woods rubbished allegations that the reason behind his surprisingly below-par show in the Ryder Cup is the fact that the bi-annual event simply does not feature in his scheme of things.

Woods, who managed eight points from a possible 20 -- a disappointing record by his stature -- told in an interview with CNN International's 'Living Golf' programme that it's not true that he did not bother for the event, as is alleged.

''I don't agree with that. It means a great deal to us. It's just that we haven't played as well. We certainly haven't putted as well.'' ''Any match-play event comes down to putting. The team putted great at the Presidents Cup last year, hence we won,'' he said in reply to accusations from Europe that he -- the US team as well -- doesn't care for it.

Mobbed by his fans wherever he goes, Woods has learnt to live with the fact and asked if there was anyplace where he could walk undisturbed, the American quipped, ''Yes, under water.'' Woods already has 10 majors under his belt and eight more would take him to Jack Nicklaus' record haul of 18. Woods, however, is not bogged down by the idea when he plays.

''...it's something you have to put off because it takes a career. It's something that's not going to happen this year; it's not something that's going to happen next year.'' ''It took Jack 20 years, it's going to take a long time and I understand that. So far I've done a pretty good job and hopefully over the rest of my career I can continue,'' he reasoned.

Asked whether he was offered roles by the film-makers, Woods said, ''Yep, all the time. I'm not interested though, being in front of the cameras is not for me.'' UNI AY SHB KN1757
