Wall cleaning operation in Buddhadeb's constituency

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) Abiding by the Election Commission's directive to clean up slogans painted on walls by political parties, the West Bengal administration today launched an extensive white washing of walls in Jadavpur area, the constituency of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

The work was taken up under the supervision of police and EC officials, sending a clear signal of strict implementation of the Commission's directives.

Walls displaying the graffiti of ruling and opposition parties preparing for the assembly polls were white washed.

Representatives of both the ruling and opposition parties also supervised the work.

Lauding the effort, local people, however, apprehended that the directive would affect those engaged in writing wall graffiti.

Two persons arrested; explosives seized

Raichur, Karnataka, Mar 10 (UNI) The district police have arrested two persons on the charge of illegally carrying out blasts in a quarry in Deodurga town here yesterday. Police said today that some explosive materials were seized from the duo -- Sharanappa and Narasimha. Convicts tryst with suicide

Pondicherry, Mar 10 (UNI) Three convicts at the Central prison here today attempted to commit suicide for the second time. According to police Bhaskaran(19), Pasupathy (29) and Babu (24) consumed washing soda last evening and began vomitting. They were brought to the government general hospital. After treatment they were taken back to the jail. This morning, the trio consumed some shampoo and were admitted to the hospital again. The reported refusal of the jail authorities.....

Stay on Salman's one year sentence

Jodhpur, Mar 10 (UNI) A local court here has stayed the sentence of one year imprisonment awarded to actor Salman Khan in the black buck killing case. Acting District and Sessions Magistrate Yashpal Choudhury while admitting Salman's appeal against the sentence yesterday, has stayed the sentence. The next hearing will be held on April 12. Chief Judicial Magistrate Brijendra Kumar Jain had sentenced Salman to one year imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 5000 on.....
