VAT to be introduced in Jharkhand from April

Ranchi, Mar 10 (UNI) Finance Minister Ragubor Das today announced that Value Added Tax (VAT) would be introduced in Jharkhand from April one.

Presenting the budget for 2006-07 in the assembly, he also said businessmen having annual turnover of up to Rs 50,000 lakhs would enjoy optional process of tax returns.

He also announced that Jharkhand would be developed as a herbal state.

In all 20 of the 22 districts were earlier brought under national rural employment guaratee programme. The other two districts were included in the budget to cover the entire state, he said.

K'taka Govt has open mind on Mono Rail too

Bangalore, Mar 10: Welcoming the Centre giving the final clearance to the Metro Rail project in the city, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said the State would also consider the other alternative of Mono Rail to ease the traffic congestion here. Speaking at the annual members day of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, he said, ''The state has an open mind on Mono Rail also.'' Tax-free deficit budget presented in Assembly

Ranchi, Mar 10 (UNI) Jharkhand Finance Minister Raghubor Das today presented a Rs 712.72 crore tax-free deficit budget for the year 2006-2007. Presenting the budget in the assembly the Minister said Rs 15,394.84 crore have been proposed under consolidated fund expenditure while the estimated reciepts were Rs 14,478.95 crore. Uproar in MP Assembly over Speaker's assurance

Bhopal, Mar 10(UNI) Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today as Speaker Ishwardas Rohani prevented opposition Congress member Satyadev Katare from raising an issue during zero hour after permitting him to do so earlier.
