Uproar in MP Assembly over Speaker's assurance

Bhopal, Mar 10(UNI) Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today as Speaker Ishwardas Rohani prevented opposition Congress member Satyadev Katare from raising an issue during zero hour after permitting him to do so earlier.

The house plunged into uproar as Mr Katare pointed out the Speaker's earlier promise to give him an opportunity after the zero hour mention by Mr Kailash Chawla (BJP), sparking protests from the treasury bench. Mr Katare sought to know about the Speaker's assurance to give a ruling on carrying of dagger (Katar) in the house.

As Mr Katare sought to raise the issue on a point of order, the Speaker refused to grant him permission, saying no point of order would be entertained during zero hour.

The ruling BJP members were on their feet, saying the Congress member had cast aspersions on the chair and the Congress members also vociferously protested, causing bedlam for about ten minutes. The Speaker also condemned Mr Katare's comments.

As bedlam continued, the Speaker sought former Chief Minister Babulal Gaur's help to pacify the ruling party members. Leader of opposition Jamuna Devi also pointed out the unruly behaviour of the tresury bench members.

Order was later restored.
