Two minors buried under debris

Durgapur, Mar 10 (UNI) Two coal pickers died and another person was seriously injured when an abandoned coal mine caved in at Chota Dhemomen village in Sodepur area of ECL under Kulti police station today.

Three minors were buried under the debris when they were picking up coal from an abandoned coal mine in that area.

Jharna Bauri (7) and Parul Bauri (17) died on the spot while Purnima Bauri (16), was injured. Tension mounted in the area after the incident.

Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS) Satish Puri said ''We have reported the matter to the police and will take proper action''.

Burdwan Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey said, ''We have lodged a complaint and advised ECL authority to level the area in order to prevent any further accidents.'' UNI XC SP VD BS1812

AP gears up to hold ADB meet:CM

Elaborate security operation at CUSAT

Kochi, Mar 10 (UNI) Police today carried out an elaborate security operation at the elite Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) here, which was temporarily closed down following violent students protests a few days ago. Policemen, accompanied by personnel of the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs, carried out a thorough check of the university, including the Vice-Chancellors' office and residence.
