Two militants arrested, American grenades recovered in J

Srinagar, Mar 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested two militants before they could kill a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in south Kashmir this afternoon, official sources said.

Elsewhere in the state a woman was injured in a grenade blast while security forces busted a hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition including American and Chinese grenades.

A militant entered the house of Mukhtar Ahmad Paddar, Deputy Chairman Municipal Council at Mattan in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.

However, before the militant identified as Javid Ahmad Khan, could hurl a hand grenade, he was overpowered.

Later, another militant, Azad Ahmad Shah, was arrested outside the house, the sources said adding they (militants) had come to kill Mr Paddar.

Militants threw a hand grenade towards a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicle at Naid Kadal in the downtown city last night.

However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to a woman.

Security forces busted a hideout at Pathi Sawni and recovered 12 American hand grenades, 14 Chinese hand grenades, 13 Anti Tank Rifle grenades, eleven Anti tank mines, one RPG with four chargers and about 700 rounds of ammunition. However, no one was arrested.

PCC decides to campaign with "human poster"

CWC expected to finalise strategy for assembly polls

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Ahead of the April/May elections to five assemblies, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of the 20-member Working Committee (CWC), the party's highest policy making body, here tomorrow.
