Stay on Salman's one year sentence

Jodhpur, Mar 10 (UNI) A local court here has stayed the sentence of one year imprisonment awarded to actor Salman Khan in the black buck killing case.

Acting District and Sessions Magistrate Yashpal Choudhury while admitting Salman's appeal against the sentence yesterday, has stayed the sentence. The next hearing will be held on April 12.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Brijendra Kumar Jain had sentenced Salman to one year imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 5000 on February 17, after holding the actor guilty of killing two black bucks in Mawad village in Mathania range in the intervening night of September 26 and 27, 1998.

Salman's counsel Hastimal Saraswat submitted in the appeal that since the seven other accused in the case including actor Satish Shah had been released on benefit of doubt, then why should Salman be the only one penalised.

AP Govt plea to Centre on maritime varsity

Bangalore, Mar 10: Welcoming the Centre giving the final clearance to the Metro Rail project in the city, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said the State would also consider the other alternative of Mono Rail to ease the traffic congestion here. Tax-free deficit budget presented in Assembly

Ranchi, Mar 10 (UNI) Jharkhand Finance Minister Raghubor Das today presented a Rs 712.72 crore tax-free deficit budget for the year 2006-2007. Presenting the budget in the assembly the Minister said Rs 15,394.84 crore have been proposed under consolidated fund expenditure while the estimated reciepts were Rs 14,478.95 crore.
