Stay on film 'Deepa Ki Tarannum' vacated

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) A local court today vacated the stay on the shooting of a under production movie 'Deepa Ki Tarannum', being produced by an Ranjit Sharma.

The matter, which was transferred to Sessions Judge Dr Laxmi Rao was heard on February 18 in which both parties had agreed for an out-of-court settlement. But the parties failed to arrive at a settlement and the matter was argued before the court on merit today.

Ranjit Sharma's counsel Nilesh Pawaskar said that while vacating the stay given by a holiday court on January five, the court had given three options of which one had to be implemented by the defendant.

He said the court accordingly observed that defendant should change the title of the film, or on completion of shooting it should be screened before the court and plaintiff before its release or declare in six newspapers that the film is not based on the life of Tarannum Khan.

Former bar dancer Tarannum Jaffar Khan had obtained a stay on the film from a holiday court on January five which was later transferred to this court in which film producer Ranjeet Sharma had filed an affidavit in reply to the notice of motion that the film is not based on the life of Tarannum Khan.

In his affidavit, he said that all the allegations made in the notice were false, baseless, concocted and worth to be rejected entirely. Sharma contested that his film was based on a fictional story of a bar dancer.

Advocate Nilesh said that the complainant had not seen any part of the shooting of film nor read the story to conclude that the film was based on her life.

The Advocate said that during the entire trial Tarannum did not appear before the court personally nor sent her life story to the court for verification.
