Schedule for Rajya Sabha election announced

Chandigarh , Mar 10 (UNI) The Haryana Chief Electoral Officer today announced the schedule for the biennial election to fill a seat in the Rajya Sabha.

The seat would fall vacant on the retirement of Mr Faqir Chand, a sitting member of the Rajya Sabha, from Haryana.

Returning Officer Sumit Kumar said that nominations could be filed upto 1500 hours on March 17 which would be the last date for nominations. Nomination papers would be scrutinised on March 18 and last date for withdrawal of candidature would be March 20.

Polling if necessary, would be held on March 28 between 0900 hours and 1500 in the old committee room of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha secretariat here.

28 killed in Pakistan's Balochistan province

Islamabad, Mar 10 (UNI) A landmine explosion in Pakistan's restive southwestern Balochistan province today killed at least 28 people and injured another seven. A government spokesman said in Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan, that 35 members of a family were travelling in a tractor trolley, which hit a landmine in Dera Bugti town, some 600 km east of Quetta, killing at least 26 people on the spot while two others later succumbed to their injuries......
