Protests over repeated crime on women

Imphal, Mar 10: Sit-in demonstrations were organised in different parts of the state today to protest the rise of crime against women.

The people of the state were shocked by four incidents that rocked the state within a short span of time.

A girl M Naobi was allegedly molested and tortured in police custody.

In another incident on January, 21 girls were reportedly raped at Churachandpur by suspected militants and security forces allegedly made an attempt on the modesty of a woman during counter insurgency operations on March 8 at Bishenpur district.

Another woman was shot by unknown armed persons yesterday at Chalwa in Senapati district.

The incidents evoked uproar in the Manipur assembly and the government has announced to conduct an inquiry.

Various women bodies staged sit-in protests besides the main road.

The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup (WCAL), which spearheaded the movement for repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (1958) in the aftermath of the killing of Th Manorama, and other organisations had decided to join the protests against crime on women in the state.

Javid Mir and 12 others taken into preventive custody in Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Nanaji) convenor Javid Ahmad Mir and 12 others were taken into preventive custody by police for violating prohibitory orders near here today. Official sources said Mir and JKLF General Secretary along with their supporters took to streets in protest against alleged Human Rights violations in Kashmir. However, when the demonstrators reached near Regal Chowk, police took Mir and 12 others into custody and lodged them in.....

Shekhawat reprimands govt over PDS failure
