President Kalam to restore Vishva Bharati's glory

Santiniketan, Mar 10 (UNI) President of India APJ Abdul Kalam today constituted a high level seven-member committee to restore Vishva Bharati university's past glory.

Vishva Bharati Registrar Sunil Kumar Sarkar told newsmen that the committee, to be headed by Governor of West Bengal Gopal Krishna Gandhi, would make suitable recommendation for restoring Vishva Bharati to its pre-eminence in the national and international arena and to re-establish it as a centre of excellence.

The committee has been further requested to submit its report within six months.

Other Committee members are Prof Andre Betele, Renowned historian Prof Romila Thapar, Prof K Vaidyanathan, Ex-Vice Chancellor Prof Amlan Dutta, Prof Govardhan Mehta and Prof A P Mitra.

AP gears up to hold ADB meet:CM

Elaborate security operation at CUSAT

Kochi, Mar 10 (UNI) Police today carried out an elaborate security operation at the elite Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) here, which was temporarily closed down following violent students protests a few days ago. Policemen, accompanied by personnel of the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs, carried out a thorough check of the university, including the Vice-Chancellors' office and residence. TTD presents budget for 2006-07

Tirumala, Mar 10 (UNI) Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) Trust Board and Controller of Sri Venkateswara temple today presented a budget of Rs 738.36 crore for the financial year 2006-07, an increase of 9.52 per cent in the allocation over the current year. The board meeting, held under the Chairman of TTD and the Union Minister, T Subbarami Reddy, had allotted an amount of Rs 20 crore exclusively for Hindu Dharma and Rs 149.09 crore towards.....
