Patil says govt to consider giving security of temples to CISF

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 10: Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said the government will examine the possiblity of using the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for the security of temples in view of the growing threat to places of worship.

Talking to the media after taking salute at the Raising Day ceremony of the CISF here, Mr Patil said in view of the recent attacks on places of worship the government would think about placing important temples under CISF security.

''Considering that we have a number of temples in the country, we will have to examine whether it will be feasible to deploy CISF at all places of worship,'' said the Home Minister in reply to a query.

The feasibility of this prospect would be found out before any decision to this effect was taken. ''But before any final decision is taken the feasibility factor would have to be examined and other factors taken into consideration.'' Government security was already there at important temples like the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura and the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, he said.

''We will have to see whether it was possible to provide security at all the temples or not.'' The CISF was a competent force which is already deployed at several vital installatins and before placing for another important assignment, all the aspectswould have to be studied, he added.
