Nuptial knot tied on sea

Pondicherry,Mar 10 (UNI) It was just like another wedding with the bride, the groom the relatives and the usual trappings. But yet it was different in many respect.

The couple entered into wedlock on sea with the vast expanse of water providing the perfect backdrop for a memorable occasion.

His first love for sea prompted this Singapore-based marine engineer U Premanandan from a fishing hamlet in Periyakalapet to return home after the tsunami struck the coasts in December 2004.

Premanandan was engaged to be married with K Sathyaprabha of the same village. The marine engineer then began preparations for the D-day in the right earnest.

Perhaps it was a work of art for a huge dias was created on the sea. The protagonists were taken to the venue by a boat along with a priest and amid chanting of holy mantras, Premanandan and Sathyaprabha became man and wife this morning.

About 2,000 people from the village came to the makeshift venue in 250 boats to shower blessing to the couple. Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Lok Sabha Member M Ramadoss and MLA M O H F Shajahan were among those who blessed the couple.

Unlike last year when Premanandan swam from Pondicherry to Cuddalore with both his hands tied to ally the fears of the fishing community about the sea, this time the tidings were sweet.
