BSF busts fake currency racket run by Bangla-Pak ISI

Shillong, Mar 10: A raid by the Border Security Force in Meghalaya's Garo Hills has busted a fake Indian currency racket that originates in Dhaka with assistance from Bangladesh fundamentalist groups and Pakistan's ISI.

On a tip off, the BSF on the intevening night of March eight and nine arrested a Bangladeshi national in Meghalaya along with fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 33,000.

According to BSF, the raid carried out near Dalu in West Garo Hills district led to the claim that the Bangladesh fundamentalist groups and ISI were still active and operate in all the Northeastern state through middle men, most of them Indian.

Narrating the incident, senior BSF officials today said here that a special BSF operation team carried out a search operation in the house of one Makcheng Marak, a local man, near Dalu in West Garo Hills at the midnight of March eight and arrested one Mohd Roby, a Bangladeshi, along with fake currency notes.

The forces found two Rs 1000 denomination notes and 62 numbers of Rs 500 denomination notes.

Marak, the house owner, however, managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The BSF further investigated following leads provided by the arrested Bangladeshi. Next day they conducted raids in the house of one Paswan Barman.

According to the confession of the apprehended Bangladeshi national, Makcheng Marak and Paswan Barman were fake currency dealers operating in and across the border area of West Garo Hills.

He also claimed that one Khurshid Alam, resident of Sribordi in Sherpur district of Bagladesh is the main supplier of Indian currency.
