Narmada waters scheme to be complete by 2008

Bhopal, Mar 10 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government today informed the assembly that work on the scheme to bring Narmada waters to the state capital will be completed by 2008.

In a written reply to a question by Mr Umashankar Gupta (BJP), Public Health Engineering Minister Rampal Singh said Rs 298 crore had been approved for the scheme on February 28, 2004.

Funds required for implementing the scheme will be made available by the Municipal Corporation, which will receive 70 per cent of the amount as loan and 30 per cent as grant.

Replying to Mr Lakshman Singh Gaud (BJP), Agriculture Minister Chaudhary Chandrabhan Singh said only one case of selling fake manure has come to light last year.

Seven cases had been registered regarding sale of fake manure from 2001 to 2005. 'Challan' had been presented in the court in all the cases.

Rs 6.75 cr for improvement of Rajahmundry Central prison

Hyderabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today said the government had sanctioned Rs 6.75 crore for repairs, renovation and extensions to the Remand block of the Rajahmundry Central Prison in East Godavari district under the Perspective Plan on Prison Refors and Quarters scheme. No stamp duty on loans to farmers by banks

Hyderabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Cooperation Kanna Lakshminarayana today said banks were not charging any stamp duty on loans given to farmers upto Rs 2 lakh. Replying a question by K Subbarayadu, D Narendrakumar and others of the TDP, the Minister said small and marginal farmers constitute 91 per cent of the farming community who do not borrow more than Rs 2 lakh. 5 killed, 4 injured as thunderbolt strikes them

Gulbarga, Mar 10 (UNI) Five people were charred to death and four sustained burns when they were struck by a thunderbolt at Batagera village in this district of Karnataka today. The police said the victims were taking shelter under a tree due to heavy rain when the mishap occurred. The police identified the victims as Nagappa (26), Ramesh (20), Ayappa (14), Narasappa (19) and Mahadevappa (12). The injured were admitted to a hospital. UNI.....
