Mixed response for Dakshina Kannada dist bandh

Mangalore, Mar 10 (UNI) The Dakshina Kannada district bandh, called by the district unit of the Rashtriya Yuva Sena in protest against the bomb blast in a temple in Varanasi, evoked mixed response today.

While all private and moffusil buses remained off the road, Government buses and private vehicles plied normally. Autorickshaws did roaring business as city buses did not operate. More than 50 per cent of the shops and business establishments did normal business.

However, as a precauctionary measure, several educational institutions remained closed.

Superintendent of Police Dayanand said the situation was peaceful with no report of any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, some minor incidents of stone pelting and road blockades were reported in some parts of the city.

Liquidity could be under pressure: Reddy

Mumbai, Mar 10 (UNI) Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Dr Y V Reddy today said that ''transient factors affecting market liquidity'' could put some pressure on the system in the middle of March. Power Corpn chief alleges corruption

Pondicherry, Mar 10 (UNI) Power Corporation Chairman L Joseph Mariodass today alleged prevalance of widespread corruption in the organisation. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Mariodass said there was corruption in purchase of spare parts and fuel. Orders were given for spares already in stock for personal benifits. He also said spares worth Rs 22 lakh were ordered for maintenance in January. Though the work was completed in February, the spares were yet to be received......

SCR, Andhra Bank enters MoU for disbursing staff salaries

Vijayawada, Mar 10 (UNI) The South Central Railway (SCR) and the public sector Andhra Bank has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for disbursing salaries of the railway employees through the Andhra Bank in Vijayawada division.
