Javid Mir and 12 others taken into preventive custody in Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Nanaji) convenor Javid Ahmad Mir and 12 others were taken into preventive custody by police for violating prohibitory orders near here today.

Official sources said Mir and JKLF General Secretary along with their supporters took to streets in protest against alleged Human Rights violations in Kashmir.

However, when the demonstrators reached near Regal Chowk, police took Mir and 12 others into custody and lodged them in kothibagh police station.

Before his arrest, Mr Mir alleged that Kashmiri youths are being killed in fake encounters and tortured in detention centres.

He said the fruits of the Confidence Building Measures (CBM) taken by India and Pakistan to normalize their relations have not reached to the people of Kashmir.

There is no change in the ground situation after these CBM's, Mir claimed adding thousands of Kashmiri youths are languishing in and outside state jails for years without any trail.

About the Pugwash conference and recent Round Table Conference at New Delhi between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and some Kashmiri leaders, Mir said this will not help to restore lasting peace in the South Asia.

Peace will remain a distant dream in the South Asia, until the Kashmir issue is resolved once and for all with active involvement of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
