Haryana govt to popularise pisciculture

Chandigarh, Mar 10 (UNI) The Haryana government has launched a number of projects to popularise pisciculture, which includes setting up of a well equipped fish diagnostic lab at Aquaculture Research Training Institute at Hisar and 18 fish poly-care centres at district level.

Besides the government also plans to set-up 10 aqua clinics at fish seed farms, a Fish Farmers Awareness Centre at Gurgaon and two new fish markets under a fish marketing project.

Stating this here today, Director (Fisheries), S C Aggarwal said that with the setting up of new projects, fish farming would get a boost and help the fish farmers in enhancing their income. With a view to enhance income of farmers, a few other new projects like polyculture of prawn and fish, native magur culture and exotic fish have been introduced, he said.

He said that Haryana had been producing more than 42,000 tonnes of fish per year whereas it produced 600 tonnes per year at the time of inception of the state.

He said that every year 2800 lakh fish seeds were being cultured in the ponds of the fish farmers in the state. He said that the state government has been giving grant of more than Rs two crore every year to fish farmers through 18 Fish Farmers Development Agencies working in the state so as to enable farmers take up fish farming.

He said that the fisheries department would celebrate 18th Fish Farmers Day at Panchayat Bhawan, Kaithal on March 11.

EC cracks whip, arms and ammunition recovered

Guwahati, Mar 10 (UNI) The Election Commission(EC) has started cracking the whip on 'anti-socials' in Asom even as the police recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition in their ongoing operation before polls in the state. Brain fever: No need to panic says Delhi Government

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) The Delhi Government today sought to downplay the death of 16 people due to brain fever, saying there was nothing alarming about the situation. ''Meningococcemia disease or brain fever in Delhi is totally under control. There is no need to panic, We are monitoring the situation very closely,'' MCD Director (Health) K N Tewari said.
