Jammu, Mar 10 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes for the third day in a row by the main opposition, National Conference (NC), over the alleged irregularities in the PHE Department.

As the question hour began, the NC leaders were up on their feet demanding a high level enquiry into alleged backdoor appointments and irregularities in the water, irriation and flood control projects of the department. When the repeated directions from Speaker Tara Chand did not have any impact, he adjourned the house for 15 minutes and held a meeting of Business Advisory Committee to resolve the deadlock.

When the house assembled again, the opposition started creating ruckus without heeding to directions of the Chair. Meanwhile, Mr Tara Chand informed about the acceptance of their demand by the government. Soon after, Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig, announced setting up of two house committees to investigate the corruption charges in the department and that too from 1996 during the Farooq Abdullah regime.

Mr Tara Chand said he will make an announcement about the constitition of the committees and their members on Monday, which was accepted by the oppostion.
