Ganguly to fight back into the squad

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) Far from thought of hanging his boots, a resolute Sourav Ganguly today said he will fight his way back into the national squad before World Cup 2007 and was happy that BCCI considered him for the committee to revamp the selection procedure.

Asked how long did he think it will take him to get back into the side, he said, ''I dont know how long it will take for me. I am working hard on cricket. Its not a hard time for me. It happens.

Australian team dropped three of its top players. Selection rules are same for everyone I am trying to make a comeback,'' he said.

Continuing on the issue he said, ''Some of the senior players were also dropped and I hope I will have my time and it will happen somewhere between now and 2007 World Cup.'' Sourav Ganguly got an opportunity to suggest an overhaul of the existing selection procedure after BCCI today named the axed Team India captain as a special invitee to an 11-member resource utilisation committe.

Asked about his selection in the new committee, he said, ''I saw it on television. I dont know what is the job of the committee. They might have just done it today. I will be intimated soon.'' ''I dont know my role in it. They will have certain things on their mind which they will pass on to me,'' he said.

Coming back to the issue of cricket and his possible return, he said, ''I performed for India for 11 years. I have been left out now, but the only way is to play domestic cricket. I had a very good season in Ranji for Bengal. I will try and keep on performing. I am sure that my past performance for India will also add some point.'' ''I am one of the lucky players who could play consistantly for 11 years. Some of the big names were also left out. This is the way to get back into the team,'' he said.

Asked if he had set any target for himself, he said, ''That is not for me to fix. It is the prerogative of the selectors. Along with the domestic performance, I have 15,000 runs behind me.'' On whether he hoped to be back in the squad for the coming World Cup, he said ''World Cup 2007 is far away. I hope somehere along the line I will be able to place myself.'' He has already confirmed participation in the national domestic onedayers and will visit Kanpur as part of Bengal squad to play Punjab.
