EC releases calender of events for RS polls

Bangalore, Mar 10 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today released the calender of events for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha to fill up four vacancies by the elected members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

An EC notification here said the candidates could submit their nominations at the Assembly till March 17 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature was March 20.

The nominations would be taken up for scrutiny on March 18. The elections would be held on March 28 and counting of votes taken up on the same day.

The elections were necessitated following the term of four members from Karnataka--Rahman Khan, K B Krishnamurthy and Bimba Raikar (all Congress) and M V Rajashekhara Murthy (BJP)--coming to an end.

HC orders DGP to form spl team to probe retreat centre matter

Kochi, Mar 10 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today ordered the Director General of Police to constitute a special team headed by an IG of police to investigate various allegations against the Muringoor divine retreat centre. Justice K Padmanabhan Nair directed the DGP to constitute a special team headed by IGP Vinson M Paul, who is now chairman and managing director of Kerala State Housing Construction Cooperative Society to probe the matter. Narco analysis test not violative of fundamental rights:HC

Kochi, Mar 10 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today held that subjecting a suspect for narco analysis test is not violative of the person's fundamental rights. Hearing on Daya's bail plea adjourned till March 14

Mumbai, Mar 10 (UNI) Special ACB Judge S P Mahajan today adjourned till March 14, the hearing on the bail application of suspended police sub inspector Daya Nayak and his associate Rajendra Padte as the prosecution sought more time.
