EC cracks whip, arms ammunition recovered

Guwahati, Mar 10 (UNI) The Election Commission(EC) has started cracking whip on the anti-socials of Asom as the police recovered large number of arms and ammunition in their ongoing operation before the state goes to the polls.

Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) J P Prakash told newsmen here today that 24 arms, 94 rounds of ammunition and 3 kgs of explosives have been recovered from the state in the past few days.

The EC has sought a list of the anti-socials as well as habituated criminals from all the districts and have collected a list having 3,155 such names.

He informed that there were 13,810 non bailable arrest warrants issued over the years and of them 1961 was executed since January of this year and the EC has asked all the DCs and SPs to execute the same before the poll.

The Guwahati city has the highest number of such cases topping the list with 1,608 arrest warrants followed by Nagaon and Karbi Anglong.

The formal process for the poll in Asom started today.
