Communalism will never flourish in India:Fatehpuri Masjid

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Describing India as a "beautiful bouquet of colourful flowers", the Shahi Imam of the Fatehpuri Masjid, Mufti Mohammed Mukarram Ahmed today said that attempts by some sections to spread hatred amongst Indians would not succeed.

In his Friday speech, the Muslim scholar and educationist, condemning the blasts in Varanasi, said ''there are several religions in India and all religions when combined, convert our country into a beautiful bouquet of colourful flowers. We will not allow anybody to spoil it at any cost.'' Referring to Tuesday's blasts in Varanasi's Sankat Mochan Temple, Dr Ahmed said that ''such brutal attacks are a serious violation of religious sanctity of a place of worship which must be stopped.'' Stating that ''Indian citizens are always in favour of peace, love, brotherhood and communal harmony,'' he appealed to the public to maintain harmony and tolerance.

SBIOA to go on indefinite strike from April three

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 10 (UNI) The entire staff, including officers' of the State Bank of India will go on an indefinite strike from next month, demanding immediate revision of pension, State Bank of India Officers Association (SBIOA) general secretary M Sreenath said today. Rains, lightening claim 27 lives in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Mar 10 (UNI) Hailstorms and unseasonal rains, accompanied by lightening and thunder, have claimed 27 lives, and left a trail of disaster across fields in central and western Maharashtra, destroying standing crops worth crores of rupees, since March 3. Fourteen people have died in central Maharashtra's backward region of Marathwada, while 13 lost lives in western region of Vidarbha, police and official sources said. A report from Aurangabad said of the 14 deaths reported.....

CBI to probe pvt of power distribution

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Rains lashed several parts of the country, killing 39 persons in Madhya Pradesh, 27 in Maharashtra and 5 in Rajasthan so far, with the most extensive damage having occurred in Madhya Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, downpours extensively damaged wheat, gram and lentil crop.
