BJP-Trinamool alliance candidate list to be announced tomorrow

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) The much-awaited list of BJP and Trinamool Congress alliance candidates for the coming Assembly polls, is likely to be declared tomorrow by AITC supremo Mamata Banerjee in presence of BJP central observer Arun Jaitley here.

Announcing this here today, BJP West Bengal state President Tathagata Roy said to give the final touches to the list of candidates, Mr Jaitley is coming here tomorrow along with party President Rajnath Singh and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi.

Incidentally, the BJP is holding a big rally in central Kolkata tomorrow to formally kick start its state election campaign in presence of party's central leaders.

To a query, Mr Roy said though the party had initially decided to contest 74 seats, but following several rounds of preliminary discussions with Ms Banerjee, they had agreed to contest in about 35 to 40 seats.

'' But we have made it clear to the alliance leader (Ms Banerjee) to give us 14 specific seats where the BJP has strong bases and fair possibility of winning,'' he said, adding that these constituencies were situated in five South Bengal districts including North 24 Parganas, Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore districts. He, however, refused to name them.

When his attention was drawn towards some adverse comments made by some senior Trinanmool Congress leaders questioning the ''utility and prospect'' of joining hands with the BJP instead of the Congress, Mr Roy refusing to pay any credence to their criticism, reiterated the committment of both the parties ''at the highest level'' to continue their electoral alliance.

Incidentally in both the last parliamentary and Municipal elections in the state, Trinamool Congress and the BJP fought together by sharing at least 15 per cent of seats among them. This time of the total 294 assembly seats, BJP is hopeful of getting at least 13 per cent share by contesting in 40 seats.
