Bail petitions of 3 accused in Sankararaman muder case dismissed

Pondicherry, Mar 10: Pondicherry principal district and sessions judge M Chinna Pandi, hearing the Sankararaman murder case in which the Kanchi Acharyas are prime accused, today dismissed the bail petitions filed by three accused in the case.

Dismissing the petitions filed by Anil Kumar (A9), A S Kumar (A10) and Anand Kumar (A11), the judge observed that the petitioners had not murdered Sankararaman out of personal vengence but have committed the crime for money. If they were granted bail, they would tamper with the evidence, threaten and thereby escape from the clutches of law. Mattu Bhasker, another accused did not press for bail, he added.

The main case had already been posted for March 20.

Counsels for the three accused, stating that there was no eyewitness to prove their involvement in the case, had prayed for granting of bail. However, Tamil Nadu Special Public Prosecutor Mr Balasundaram had argued that granting of bail to them would lead to tampering of evidences collected by the prosecution and prayed not to grant bail to the accused.
