'Kolkata TV' to beam from March 27

Kolkata, Mar 9: The much awaited 'Kolkata TV' will launch its global Bengali infotainment channel on March 27 ending year-long speculation about exact date of its debut in the world class round the clock news and current affairs segment.

Announcing the launch date of the channel, Editor and Director of 'Kolkata TV', Suman Chattopadhyay said that in the first phase they would be reaching every nook and corner of the state, besides, covering Delhi and Mumbai. ''We will be catering to the demand of nearly 23 million Bengalis along the region,'' Mr Chattopadhyay said.

In the next phase, which was likely to start in the next few months, the entire north and south India, besides, other states in the eastern and north eastern region would covered, he added.

'Kolkata TV' would ensure a new experience in information and entertainment that would create milestones in the electronic media, he said.

Asked about the expenditure to launch the state-of-the-art modern channel, he said in the first phase the total cost would be Rs 50 crore. and the total expenditure would cross the Rs 100 crore mark on the completion of the second phase of the expansion programme.

Commission to be set up for elections of cooperative societies in MP

Bhopal, Mar 9 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Cooperative, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Gopal Bhargava today said in the Assembly that a commission will be constituted for elections of co-operative societies, while public distribution system (PDS) will be made more transparent. Replying to the debate over grants for Co-operative, Food and Civil Supplies departments for 2006-07, Mr Bhargava said sugar factories, which were running in loss, are now reaping profits, as a result of financial aid.....

BC employees in AP to hold conference on Mar 11

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare organisation will hold BC Employees conference here on March 11 to press their demands, including 50 per cent reservation in Parliament and the State Assemblies and implementation of Mandal Commission recommendations in toto. The OBCs wanted the Union Government to provide reservation for OBC employees in promotions, set up a separate department to look into their welfare and allocate Rs 5,000 crore in the Budget.....

Nuclear authorities endorse India-US nuclear deal

Mumbai, Mar 10: The country's nuclear authorities yesterday (Mar 09, 2006) endorsed India-US nuclear deal, saying that without compromising her national security the deal opens the gateway to securing India's energy independence to power her economic growth in a big way.Assuring that there would be no reduction in India's strategic nuclear programme, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Dr Anil Kakodkar said the deal while raising the comfort level of the international community would pave the way for the country to enhance her nuclear.....
