Earthquake measuring 5.2 rocks Andaman

New Delhi, Mar 10: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the richter scale shook the Indian Ocean region off Andaman Islands yesterday night (Mar 09, 2006), the Met office said.

There were immediate reports of damages because of the moderate intensity quake, at 2042 hrs.

Earthquakes of such intensity do not usually cause any damage.

Hundreds of aftershocks have rattled the Andaman region ever since the December 2004 temblor off Sumatra that touched off a tsunami and devastated lives along the Indian Ocean coast.

BC employees in AP to hold conference on Mar 11

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare organisation will hold BC Employees conference here on March 11 to press their demands, including 50 per cent reservation in Parliament and the State Assemblies and implementation of Mandal Commission recommendations in toto. The OBCs wanted the Union Government to provide reservation for OBC employees in promotions, set up a separate department to look into their welfare and allocate Rs 5,000 crore in the Budget.....

Nuclear authorities endorse India-US nuclear deal

TDP will save Rs 1000 crore in Telangana projects

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Y Dayakar today said the TDP would save Rs 1000 crore public money if the government permitted them to construct irrigation projects in Telangana region.
