Shourie releases BJP's vision 2020 for Assam

Guwahati, Mar 5 (UNI) Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Shourie today criticised both Congress and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for lack of development of the state and also for the infiltration problem.

Releasing the party's vision 2020, a document, which the BJP assured of implementing for the development of the state, he alleged that the Congress was mainly responsible for the problems of the state, while the AGP had also failed to live up to the expectation of the people.

He pointed out that identity crisis and lack of development were the two major factors, which the people of the state had to consider and urged them to take the opportunity in the coming Assembly election to address the two issues.

Criticising the Congress, Mr Shourie said the party could do anything to attract voters and the recent amendment to the Foreigners Act to reintroduce the provisions of the controversial IMDT Act was one example of it.

He reminded the people that both Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Union Ministers S M Dev and Mr Pranab Mukherjee had promised to honour the apex court's verdict during the tripartite talks held with the AASU.

But as the election approached, the party forgot its assurances as it has to woo the infiltrators for their votes, he said.

The former Union Minister said the Congress had also become an expert of creating division, undermining public institutions, corruption and opportunism.

On the vision document released, he said the party had earlier released the chargesheet against the Gogoi government and today's vision 2020 would explain the people what the BJP intended to do in Assam.

Expressing concern over the fast demographic change in many districts of the state, Mr Shourie said it was high time the people did something to stop the demographic invasion.

The Congress was bending itself to woo the infiltrators forgetting Lokapriya Bordoloi, who had once saved the state from going to then Pakistan. If such appeasing of the Bangladeshis continued, the state would soon become an extension of Bangladesh, he cautioned.

Mr Shourie also criticised the AGP for suffering from delusion in the name of secularism.
