Security tightened for Sonia Gandhi's visit

Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Mar 5 (UNI) Hours ahead of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's visit, a blanket security cover has been thrown over the Tiruchirapalli city.

Police personnel have been put on high alert and they have taken positions at vulnerable points in the city, especially around the airport, where Mrs Gandhi will make a visit to participate in the ninth state-level conference of the DMK.

Mrs Gandhi's visit has assumed great significance against the backdrop of MDMK, a key constituent of DPA, switching over to the rival AIADMK camp in a sudden political development.

She is expected to arrive here in a special flight from Kerala at around 1650 hours and would address the DPA cadres at 1800 hours.

After hearing the speech of Mr Karunanidhi, Mrs Gandhi would take off to New Delhi in a special flight from Tiruchi airport at around 2100 hours.

Thousands of DPA volunteers have assembled in the city to participate in the concluding day of the conclave.

Karunanidhi lauds UPA for classical language status to Tamil

Congress holds conclave in Ambaji, attacks BJP for 'misrule' in Guj
