Delhi govt gets Best E-Governed State Award in Northern region

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Delhi government has been adjudged as the best e-governed state in the Northern region by the first ever survey conducted by Detaquest and IDC.

Dataquest was one of the established IT magazines of the country published by Cybermedia group. IDC, an IT research company and Dataquest had devised elaborate procedure for marking the use of technology for providing citizen services, an official statement said today.

All citizen-centric departments like transport, revenue, police, taxation, education were studied by them in detail in all the northern states.

Based on the impact of technology in improvement on providing citizen services, an assessment of Northern states was done. On the basis of this assessment, Delhi government of was found to be the best e-governed state in the region.

The award was today handed over to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit by Secretary (IT) Prakash Kumar.

The award was presented here yesterday at the conclusion of 'E-Governed Summit 2006' organised by Dataquest in association with Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, and supported by TCS, IBM, Wipro, NASSCOM.

The aim of the summit was to discuss in detail the implementation of NeGP (National e-Governance Plan) and to bring out requirement of capacity building in order to create domain of expertise and IT knowledge for chalking out long term roadmap for making India truly digital.

At the summit best practices and case studies from different states were presented.

Delhi HC Blast: Rs 10 lakh compensation to victims

New Delhi, Sept 21: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday (Today) ordered the central and state government to provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed and those permanently incapacitated in the Sept 7 Delhi High Court blast.Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said the compensation amount "should be equally shared by the (two) governments". Telangana protesters threaten to close schools

Hyderabad, Sept 20: A major number of missionary and private schools in and around Hyderabad were bound to announce a holiday on Tuesday (Today), after the Telangana Joint Action committee (JAC) threatened them of consequences.JAC leader M Kodandaram said all missionary and private schools in Hyderabad should be closed and participate in the ongoing general strike "respecting the sentiments of the people of Telangana". He particularly pointed out the names of Delhi Public School and Oakridge International School though he warned other private.....
