Gold medal earns Cameroon public holiday

Yaounde: Cameroon has declared Monday a public holiday to celebrate its national soccer team's Olympic gold medal.

President Paul Biya announced the holiday in a decree read on state television on Saturday.

Cameroon, the African champions, succeeded Nigeria as Olympic champions in Sydney earlier in the day when they beat Spain 5-3 on penalties in the final.
